My Hair Story – Part II

My Hair Story – Part I

We were using shampoo bars before they became popular!

Four years ago, my natural hair story commenced. Here are the results.

Soon after the first Hair Story was published, the Shea Shampoo was released.  I enjoyed using the Shea Shampoo Bar, as it gave my hair that squeaky clean sound in the shower, something which I hadn’t had since switching to natural soap as shampoo.  It wasn’t long, however, until my hair needed something even gentler.  Yes, I am still washing my hair every day 🙂  But with it being so long, the ends would get a little fried while I was trying to keep the roots fresh.

I didn’t have time to formulate a new shampoo, so next came a frustrating, long period where I wasn’t happy with my hair, and used any old thing on it.  During this time I did have a  breakthrough, however;  The Argan Conditioner Bar.  Loved using it every day!  It smoothed my ends & lasted forever (almost) – one little half-size bar would last me 2 months with daily use.  Maybe once a week or so, I would give my hair a break & use the Conditioning Hair Oil instead, but I would miss the effect of the conditioner bar very much.

Brand-new Formulations!

Eventually, after much brainstorming, I started experimenting with a new formulation – designed to nourish the hair like no bar of soap ever could.  I have never spent so much time (& money) formulating anything else before.  Every day I tested a new recipe, first, using the cheaper oils, then, when results were not satisfying, using very expensive oils – this went on for MONTHS.   Eventually, I was satisfied, and the Crème Shampoos were born.

This was exciting!  The Crème Shampoos are designed for dry, brittle hair, yet they are awesome on my oily hair because I wash it every day.  The Coily Crème is too rich for me – designed for 4A-4C hair * .  I tend to use the Curly Crème more, but kind of alternate between the Curly Crème & Karoo Crème.

At first, I was covering my hair completely with the cream, then washing & applying the Argan Conditioner Bar.  But when my hair was not that dirty, I would just apply the cream to the roots.

Then November 2019 I went on holiday, & cut all my hair off 😛  Now, I am still using the Curly Crème, but I found that the Argan Conditioner Bar is a little heavy with short, fine hair.  So I went back to using the Conditioning Hair Oil.

1st & 2nd photos are straight from the salon (I went with washed hair, so they didn’t wash my hair) & 3rd is after about a month, no brush, no comb, just air-dried. (yes, it does grow that fast! 😬)

My Current Love…

Currently I am LOVING the Aqua Curls – its the closest to regular shampoo, and I hardly ever need to apply anything to my ends when using it. It keeps my hair sleek and nourished, while maintaining the waviness.

So my natural hair story has been quite a ride 😁  From the Coconut Oil Shampoo, right through to the Curly Crème, I have loved all my shampoos.  I love the way they make my hair feel, soft & smooth.  I don’t get split ends.  My hair looks styled, even though I haven’t used a brush/comb/hairdryer for months.
